 Dear
Friends and Family,
Today,
as my friend and mentor, Mardy Murie, celebrates her 100th birthday
with her family in Moose, Wyoming, she is very much at the forefront
of my thoughts.
What a remarkable life she has lived, and what a remarkable lady she
is! There is an enchanting book "Arctic Dance", by
Charles Craighead and Bonnie Kreps that has just recently been
published which compliments the film "Arctic Dance" which
was completed several years ago! I would encourage all of you
to get a copy of one, or if possible, both of these wonderful
recapturing's of Mardy's spirit and accomplishments. You can

I did a piece for The Murie Center's Legacy Project that can be

Photographs by Vance - Journal - The Muries Influence, that
outlines how I came to know and love this matriarch of the
conservation movement. I felt so grateful that I could share
this story which stands as just one of, undoubtedly thousands, of
tributes to Mardy, Olaus, Louise and Adolph. I encourage all
of you to join me in celebrating Mardy's 100th, by reflecting on the
legacy and the life of this dear, dear lady!
